Union payback palooza: Obama threatens to withhold California stimulus bucks; Conyers won’t investigate ACORN

The Obama administration is threatening to rescind billions of dollars in federal stimulus money if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers do not restore wage cuts to unionized home healthcare workers approved in February as part of the budget.
Schwarzenegger’s office was advised this week by federal health officials that the wage reduction, which will save California $74 million, violates provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Failure to revoke the scheduled wage cut before it takes effect July 1 could cost California $6.8 billion in stimulus money, according to state officials. [snip]
The wages at issue involve workers who care for some 440,000 low-income disabled and elderly Californians. The workers, who collectively contribute millions of dollars in dues each month to the influential Service Employees International Union and the United Domestic Workers, will see the state’s contribution to their wages cut from a maximum of $12.10 per hour to a maximum of $10.10.
The SEIU said in a statement that it had asked the Obama administration for the ruling.
If this is a violation of the Recovery Act, does this mean that no State can budget wage cuts for any union employees – in the public and private sector? Or is there some special provision which only applies to the S.E.I.U.?
By the way, many of those “workers” are family members who care for their own relatives, and nurses who do not support their “progressive” causes, but are forced to pay dues to the S.E.I.U..
Meanwhile, remember when John Conyers called for a congressional investigation of ACORN? That was then and this is now!
You know, it’s hilarious to think that the Mobster-In-Chief poses as Mr. Clean because he doesn’t hire lobbyists (except those he gives waivers to) but it’s sad to think that millions of people are gullible enough to believe him.
1. Ed Morrissey writes, Obama threatens CA to protect Union wages, and quips:
I’d suggest changing “Hail to the Chief” to “Look for the Union Label,” but Obama would probably approve it.
2. Ed also links to a column for I.B.D by Michael Barone, who calls the Obama Administration a “Gangster Government”. And to think that I momentarily hesitated about referring to Barack as the “Mobster-in-Chief”. Ed writes:
Instead of following the rule of law, Obama and his henchmen have threatened to kneecap their opposition in the press and use Porkulus as an extortion device to dictate policy.
